Study shows potential of AI in technology and innovation management

Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been more than just a tool for data analysis—it is increasingly becoming a strategic factor in technology and innovation management. A new study shows how companies can use AI to evaluate future technologies in a more targeted manner, automate innovation processes, and make informed decisions.

The study “Artificial Intelligence in Technology and Innovation Management,” published by Dr. Ulrich Hutschek (TIM Consulting), Kai Ellermann, and Lennard Haarmann (both Fraunhofer IEM), provides a structured overview of the possible applications of AI in innovation-driven companies. It describes various methods, analyzes current tool landscapes, and uses concrete examples to show how companies are already benefiting from AI today.

Key components of the study are:

  1. Use in business practice: User companies and current challenges from the perspective of users and providers.
  2. Classification framework: The three levels of the framework: application level, tool level, and technology level.
  3. Overview and analysis of the tool landscape: Classification of tools into the process level, technology level, and analysis.
  4. Business integration and outlook: Business integration and key developments over the next 3 to 5 years.
